Waterberry – Syzygium guineense
Waterberry (Syzygium guineense) is a beautiful indigenous African evergreen tree, valued for its lush green foliage, spreading canopy and attractive clusters of white flowers. It is an excellent choice for larger gardens and landscapes where shade, greenery and wildlife-friendly planting are desired.
Growing Waterberry
Waterberry grows best in sunny to partially shaded positions and prefers moist, well-drained soil. It is naturally associated with areas where water is available, making it particularly suitable for gardens with regular watering. Once established, it can tolerate some dry periods, but it generally performs best with consistent moisture.
The tree produces clusters of fluffy white flowers that attract bees and other pollinating insects, followed by fleshy fruits that provide food for birds and other wildlife. Its dense canopy offers valuable shade and shelter, making Waterberry a wonderful addition to indigenous and wildlife-friendly gardens.
