🌿 Gardening in March

Although the hot weather may still be lingering the garden is starting to wind down and look tired so here are a few ideas to add some pizazz into the late season and keep your outdoor space looking good.

🌸 Refresh Tired Borders

Tidy up border edges then plant up gaps in the front of the border with low growing plants like colourful Dianthus, Erigeron Karvinkianus (Mexican Fleabane), which has small daisy-like pink/white flowers, Agastache, with blue flowers and is very attractive to butterflies and Geranium Saguineum, a pretty, spreading plant. Ramp up the colour around the rest of the border with bright, vibrant plants such as Osteopermums, Gazanias, Salvias, Marigolds, Verbena, Nicotiana, Zinnias, Heucheras, Phlox and Rudbekias.

🌱 Mulching for Healthier Beds

A good mulch spread around the flower bed after planting and watering will help conserve moisture. Add nutrients to the soil and keep weeds at bay. Trees and shrubs will also benefit from a layer of mulch. Always make sure before adding mulch that the soil is weed-free.
