Melinis repens (Natal Red Top / Red Natal Grass)

Melinis repens, commonly known as Natal Red Top, is an indigenous perennial grass of South Africa, admired for its delicate, feathery flower heads that range from pink to red and age into soft silvery tones. It grows in loose, graceful tufts with narrow green leaves, creating a shimmering effect in the landscape when planted in groups. Flowering mainly in spring and summer, it adds colour and movement to water-wise and natural gardens. This grass is hardy, drought tolerant, and self-seeds easily, making it ideal for sustainable gardening.
